Area of a Circle

Title: Architect on the go!

Goal: The students will be able to establish understanding of the applications of area of a circle in real-life scenarios.

Covered Competencies:

  • visualizes the area of a circle;

  • solves the area of a circle given a specific capacity in real life situation; and

  • creates a poster showing the computation of the area of the circular theme park.

You are a landscape architect planning several infrastructures around the town. One day, the mayor of your city went to your office and proposed a new project. As you read the contract, the mayor wanted you to plan a circular theme park in the town. Considering an average of 1,000 people who usually spend their weekends at the town’s current park, proposed a plan for this circular theme park. Draw your plan in a big poster and present it in class like you will present it to the mayor!

How will your plan go?

  • Since you are chosen to plan in building the park, you first need the measurement. How will you compute for the area? Use the given above and visualize the area of the park! Show your solutions on the poster together of the drawing of your plan. After visualizing the area of the park, ask yourself if it is already enough to accommodate 1,000 people around the park!

  • Take Note: Your poster will be varied as to how you will defend your measurement when you will present it to the class (to the mayor rather!)

How will you make your poster?

  • Your poster can be made of anything! The more convenient and affordable to you, the better. It can be in cartolina, manila paper, etc. The materials to be used is also in your choice! You can add anything as you wish to as long as it can help you in the presentation of your plan and contains the needed content of the poster.

  • Make sure that the drawing and writings inserted in the poster is clear and can be viewed until the last row in the classroom
