Hello! Thank you for visiting my blog. You will find here my learning experience when I demonstrated case-study approach in teaching inside the classroom. I wish my experience will help you if you want to do the same thing as I did. Happy reading!

Description of the assigned teaching strategy
Case method is a powerful student-centered teaching strategy that can impart students with critical thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Learning Experience

There is a lot to learn when you experience it on your own. A countless learning just from a single journey.
Every single moment in my preparation for my demonstration is worth it. Starting from planning, revising and then finally doing it. At first, I was shocked to get a case study based approach as an assigned topic to me. I thought- “Is it really possible to integrate case study approach in an elementary level?” Right from the start, I felt the pressure of preparing my lesson plan- never did I know I came to this part of fulfillment to finally have done it.
The first thing I have done is to research. What are the principles behind my approach, how to integrate in the classroom, etc. Having to know the nature of it, I started to look at the K-12 curriculum guide to know what topic can exactly fit my assigned approach. Not all topics can fit in to all teaching strategies. Thinking that presenting case studies in the class requires higher thinking skills, I decided to look at Grade 6 topics in the curriculum guide. Out of all the topics, I chose Volcanic Eruption since recently there had been such phenomenon so students can totally relate in the real life situation. Since it is a case study, I research about how to make one so that I can also create cases in Volcanic eruption. After formulating and revising, I finally had done 3 cases (You can visit the lesson plan section and click Volcanic Eruption in the Science part to see the cases). During my demonstration, I did my best. I made mistake half through but I’m satisfied to what I had done.
These are the tips I might give to you if you are planning to use case-study based approach:
1. Make your own case/s! Don’t google around and trust what you have
2. Let the students discover the needed answers to the lesson. Be their facilitator!
3. If you are planning to have an activity that requires materials, make sure to let the students check first if the materials they have is complete before proceeding in doing the activity.
4. Always make a go signal for them every time they are doing an activity! Tell if they need to start, stop and post their work.
