Title: Solving Routine and Non-routine Word Problems Involving Division

Grade 4, 1st Quarter

Goal: The learners should be able to solve routine and non-routine word problems involving division of 3-to4-digit numbers by 1-to-2-digit numbers including money using appropriate problem solving strategies and tools.

Objectives:

 At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

  1. identify routine and non-routine word problems involving division of 3-to4-digit numbers by 1-to-2-digit numbers.

  2. solve routine and non-routine word problems involving division of 3-to4-digit numbers by 1-to-2-digit numbers including money using appropriate problem solving strategies and tools.

  3. apply solving word problems involving division using money

Materials and Resources:

  • division window cards, flash cards of basic division facts, charts of word problems, activity cards

 

Motivation:

Activity Title: Conserve our forest

  1. Show a picture of a forest.

  2. Ask: What did you do there? Share some of your experiences.

  3. Ask: Is it necessary for us to conserve our forest? Why? How can you help conserve our forest?

 

Lesson Procedure:

 

  1. Present a problem opener.

 

A total of 845 pupils in Quezon City joined the tree-planting program. If there were 15 barangay, how many pupils in each barangay joined the tree planting program?

Ask: What is asked in the problem?

            What are the given facts?

            What word clue would help you solve the problem?

            What operation is to be used?

            Ask a pupil to show his/her solution oon the board.

Answer:

So, 123 pupils per barangay joined the tree-planting program.
