At the end of the lesson, students will able to:

  1. visualizes a solid figures

  2. describes a solid figures

  3. identify the faces, edges, and vertices of solid figures

  4. identify examples of solid figures .

Resources

Classification of solid figures retrieved from https://www.ck12.org/book/CK-12-Middle-School-Math-Concepts-Grade-6/section/10.12/

Faces, Edges and Vertices of solid figures retrieved from https://www.ck12.org/book/CK-12-Middle-School-Math-Concepts-Grade-6/section/10.13/

Motivation:

  1. The students will watch a clip from Night at the Museum

  2. After watching, teacher will ask the following questions:

    • What are the objects/ things can be found in the museum?

    • What did you observe among the structures and objects at the museum?

Lesson Procedure:

  1. Teacher will briefly discuss difference between plane figures and solid figures.

  2. The teacher will let the students to describe types of solid figures by using real objectives.

  3. Teacher will discuss what is faces, edges, and vertices.

  4. Using the real objectives students will identify where the faces, edges, and vertices of the objects.

  5. Teacher will summarize the characteristics of the types of solid figures.

  6. The class will divided into three groups. Each group will have the following materials: box, candle, ball, dice, ice cream cone, picture of pyramid of Eygpt.

  7. Students will fill the information below:

Name of objects:

Types of solid figures:

Number of faces:

Number of edges:

Number of vertices:

  8. Students will write their answer on a short bond paper.

  9. Teacher will ask some to summarize the lesson for today.
