Topic: Respiratory System: (Human Body Systems)

Grade 6 (2nd Quarter)

Goal: The students should be able to demonstrate understanding of the importance of respiratory system in our lives.

Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

  1. define respiratory system;

  2. identify each organ of respiratory system;

  3. explain how each organs works together; 

  4. identify dangerous factors that can harm the respiratory system from the issues in the Philippines; and

  5. create a campaign advocacy that shows care on our respiratory system by making a campaign poster.

Materials:

LCD projector, laptop,  pen, paper, handouts, cartolina, tape, timer, puzzle pieces

Motivation:

Instructions:

            1. The class will be divide into 2 groups.

            2. Each group will be given a news article. (News Article: Duterte Orders Strict Smoking Ban in Philippines, and Asks Citizens to Help.)

            3. Within 5-7 minutes the class should analyze the article and identify the cause and effect of the smoking ban in the Philippines.

            4. After that, one representative of a group will present the group’s work in class.

Lesson Procedure: 

  1. Teacher will ask questions regarding the connection of motivational activity to the lesson.

  2. The teacher will conduct a short activity about organs. (Puzzle)

  3. Teacher will discuss the upper and lower respiratory tract.

  4. The students will label the image formed from the previous activity.

  5. The teacher will conduct activity regarding mechanism of breathing. There will be questions after the activity.

  6. The teacher will divided the class into 3 groups and will be give three issues in each group.

  7. Students will read and identify the possible respiratory illness/ diseases.

  8. Teacher will ask questions to the students and discuss some respiratory system illness and diseases.

  9. After knowing those illness/ diseases and where did we get it, the groups will create a healthy tips on how we should take care the respiratory system.

  10.  Students will present their output.   

  11. The teacher will summarize their output about taking care of our respiratory system.
