Topic: Energy (Simple Machine)

Grade 6, Quarter 3

Goal: The students will be able to demonstrate understanding importance of simple machine in life.

Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

  1. define simple machine.

  2. describe their characteristics and uses of a simple machine; and

  3. create a safety tips in using a simple machine.

Materials:

LCD projector, cartolinas, marker, manipulative objects, and powerpoint.

Motivation:

Once upon a time Angel needed to move something heavy. Angel picked up a long stick and stuck it under the edge of the heavy object and then pushed down on the other end of the stick.

 

Follow up questions:

  • What material or tool used Angel to move something heavy?

  • Did it make it easy for Angel to do work by using a simple machine?

  • Based on the story, what is a simple machine?

Lesson Procedure

  1. Teacher will briefly discuss the six basic types of simple machine.

  2. The class will be divided into six groups.

  3. Each group will have one types of a simple machine that they are going to observe and manipulate.

  4. The teacher will give instruction about the activity.

  5. The students will write their observation in a cartolina regarding the uses and characteristics of a simple machine that are being assigned to them.

  6. Students will post their output on the board.

  7. Teacher will summarize the output of students regarding the uses and characteristics of a simple machine.

  8. With the same group, they will create a safety tips in using simple machine.

  9. Two representatives of the group will discuss and explain their output.

10. Teacher will summarize practical and safety uses of simple machine.
