Title: Changes in the Materials that are Useful or Harmful to one’s Environment

Grade 4, 1st Quarter

Goal: The learners should be able to identify changes in materials whether useful or harmful to one’s environment.

Objectives:

 At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

  1. identify changes in materials whether useful or harmful the environment.

  2. describe the harmful effects of the changes in the materials to the environment.

  3. suggest some ways of preventing/minimizing the harmful effects of the changes in the materials to the environment.

Materials and Resources:        

  • 1 pc. manila paper, 1 pc. marking pen, illustrations

 

Motivation:

  1. Show the class the illustration below

 

 

 

  1. From the given illustration, ask the pupils to identify situations/actions showing materials that undergo changes. (trees being cut, wood being burned, river thrown with garbage, etc)

  2. Ask them to identify whether such changes are useful or harmful to one’s environment

  3. Present the lesson.

 

 

Lesson Procedure:

1. Divide the class into small groups

2. Introduce “What are the changes in materials that are useful or harmful to one’s environment?”

3. Give the necessary instructions in doing the activity. (Accomplish the chart in allotted time)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What does the picture show?

What is the effect to the environment?

What can people do to prevent/minimize its harmful effect to the environment?

4. Supervise the pupils while they are doing the activity

5. Have a group representative to present the results of the activity

6. Check the groups’ responses to the activity questions as you discuss the answers.
