Topic: Heart

Grade 4, Quarter 2nd

Goal: The students demonstrate understanding of how the major internal organs such as the brain, heart, lungs, liver, stomach, intestines, kidneys functions to keep the body healthy.

 

Objectives:

At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:

  1. Describe the main function of the heart.

  2. communicate that the major organs work together to make the body function properly;

  3. And identify the causes and treatment of diseases of the heart.

 

Materials:

Projected and non-projected media, stop watch, pen, pencil and paper

Lesson Procedure:

  • The activity entitled “ My heart, beats” it is an individual activity

  • The students will look for his pulse by using his index and middle fingers, and pressing them slightly on his wrist. He will count the pulses, while he is at rest for 1 minute and record his data.

  • The students will jog for 2 minutes and he will also count his pulse rate.

  • This activity will measures the resting rate and pulse rate of the heart.

  • The teacher will also ask his/her students to compare the data that they gathered while they are at rest and while they do the jogging for at least 2 minutes.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • The teacher will also ask his/her students about the effects of exercise to their heart rate and how this happened.

  • The teacher will ask his/her students to define heart and how it works base on the activity that they did.

  • The teacher will give another activity to his/her students entitled “ Draw my heart”

  • This activity will let the students draw the heart and label its different parts. The teacher will discuss about the different parts of the heart and how it works to other major organs.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • The teacher will give different pictures that show different heart diseases and students will think some of the treatments or prevention to get these kinds of diseases.

  • The teacher will discuss the symptoms, treatments and preventions for some of the heart diseases.

  • The teacher will give her last activity entitled “Please take care my heart” the students will create a roll playing that shows tips on how to take care our heart.
